Rainfall & Reunion: A Mid-Year Reflection

With every drop of June and July rain,
seeds once scattered now stir awake.
In Columbus, Ohio—and across the equator in Ecuador—
the skies pour steady, and new life keeps pushing through the soil.

Right now, Isabel (21) and Elena (18) are back in the land that shaped so much of their childhood—Quito, Ecuador—
gathered with other Missionary Kids, flown in by One Mission Society
for a reunion filled with stories, laughter, and healing.

Meanwhile, Guido and Sofia are soaking in the sweet familiarity of Pallatanga,
a personal pilgrimage to rekindle friendship and family ties.
Later this week, they’ll head to Cuenca for time with Guido’s side of the family.
On Sunday, Guido returned to La Viña Pallatanga,
worshiping with joy among dear faces
and later watching a wedding unfold in the new chapel
at Lugar de Shalom Camp—the place we called home and mission for 18 years.

As for me—I’m back in Columbus,
eyes and heart fixed on the horizon.
Big things are growing with La Roca Foundation.
We’re on the verge of finalizing a $80,000 agreement with Ecuadorian Social Services in Cuenca—
six months of collaboration coming to a head—
so our technical team can begin recruiting and training families
to offer loving homes to vulnerable children.
What a wonder to see how God has been weaving these threads
across nations and seasons, for such a time as this.

And the journey continues...

✈️ September 29–October 4: I’ll be in Ecuador again,
where we’re gathering leaders from Casa Viva (Costa Rica),
World Without Orphans, Ecuadorian Social Services and judicial leaders,
along with the unsung heroes—technical teams and house staff.
Together, we’ll share wisdom, training, and heart
to shape a family-based model of care for children.
This is foundational work—quietly monumental.

✈️ October 9–16: Guido, Sofia, and I will lead 17 high school students to Costa Rica,
serving shoulder to shoulder with a small coastal church—
a chance for young hearts to grow in faith and service.

✈️ November 6–10: I return to Ecuador again,
this time with My Village Ministries,
as we gather pastors to imagine and implement
how the Church can rise to support families
within their own neighborhoods, their own pews.

Rain keeps falling, yes—but this is the kind of rain that nourishes.
From Columbus to Cuenca, from coast to coast—
something beautiful is being born.
And I’m just so grateful to be part of the story.
